A new version of Intel microcode is available at https://downloadcenter.intel.com/download/27337/Linux-Processor-Microcode-Data-File?v=t The version available there is version 20171117 The reason for my initial higher priority setting is that I suspect that the version might be related to the security issues mentioned at https://www.bleepingcomputer.com/news/security/intel-fixes-critical-bugs-in-management-engine-its-secret-cpu-on-chip/
The bug has been closed via the following commit(s): https://gitweb.gentoo.org/repo/gentoo.git/commit/?id=6870e19a1266652e0fa6c0af5aa1edb57aaeb755 commit 6870e19a1266652e0fa6c0af5aa1edb57aaeb755 Author: Thomas Deutschmann <whissi@gentoo.org> AuthorDate: 2017-11-21 20:08:46 +0000 Commit: Thomas Deutschmann <whissi@gentoo.org> CommitDate: 2017-11-21 20:08:46 +0000 sys-firmware/intel-microcode: Bump to v20171117 Closes: https://bugs.gentoo.org/638386 Package-Manager: Portage-2.3.13, Repoman-2.3.4 sys-firmware/intel-microcode/Manifest | 3 +- .../intel-microcode-20171117.ebuild | 48 ++++++++++++++++++++++ 2 files changed, 50 insertions(+), 1 deletion(-)

However, this is not the case. For the ME/TXT thing you need a new UEFI/ME firmware from your motherboard/system vendor. Microcode updates addresses things like shown in bug 624556.
