Usage of C++ API of ICU >=59 requires usage of C++ >=2011. C++ 1998 is default in GCC <6. C++ 2014 is default in GCC 6 and 7. Ideally build system would add e.g. -std=c++11 or -std=c++14 to CXXFLAGS, but alternatively ebuild should add it. /bin/sh ../libtool --tag=CXX --mode=compile x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-g++ -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I../include -I../include -I/usr/include -DUSE_AUTOTOOLS -DUNIX -Dunix -D__unix__ -DSWICU_DATA=\"/usr/lib64/sword/1.7.4_icu_\" -D_FTPLIB_NO_COMPAT -fPIC -D_ICU_ -O2 -pipe -march=native -c -o swmgr.lo `test -f '../src/mgr/swmgr.cpp' || echo './'`../src/mgr/swmgr.cpp libtool: compile: x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-g++ -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I. -I../include -I../include -I/usr/include -DUSE_AUTOTOOLS -DUNIX -Dunix -D__unix__ -DSWICU_DATA=\"/usr/lib64/sword/1.7.4_icu_\" -D_FTPLIB_NO_COMPAT -fPIC -D_ICU_ -O2 -pipe -march=native -c ../src/mgr/swmgr.cpp -fPIC -DPIC -o .libs/swmgr.o In file included from /usr/include/unicode/utypes.h:38:0, from /usr/include/unicode/unistr.h:32, from ../include/utf8transliterator.h:41, from ../src/mgr/swmgr.cpp:102: /usr/include/unicode/umachine.h:347:13: error: 'char16_t' does not name a type typedef char16_t UChar; ^ ...
