I want to inform the developers that for the next 9 months I won't be able to maintain the ebuilds that are assigned to me, due to some military service obligations. Perphaps every now and then I might have time to actually read mails and try to fix bugs or make version bumps, but I can't guarantee something.

Hey, I noticed you have some outdated packages with bugs open. Are you still with us? We understand if you don't have time to keep maintaining them, but would appreciate if you then posted "packages up for grabs" mail to gentoo-dev while updating metadata.xml of these packages to put then in maintainer-needed. You are of course always welcome to start maintaining them again when you find more time / interest towards these packages!
