There is a ebuild for fresh 2.78b release.

We were holding off for a bit because there are several ebuild fixes that need to be done and also we're adding in OSL support. I need to check if there are any new package requirements like with the 'a' bump, which is why 2.78 is still in the tree.

In case you want to try the new ebuilds early, the version bump with OSL support is here:

I will be testing these for a few days before adding them to portage.

There is blender-2.78.c out there. I renamed the 2.78a-r1 ebuild and even appended PYTHON_COMPAT=( python3_6 ) and not just it compiled ok, but works too.

So...time for a version bump?
Comment 4 Oleg 2017-03-05 13:40:09 UTC
It works with python 3.5 too.

Moving straight to v2.79.
