Description Mike Gilbert gentoo-dev 2017-01-27 03:01:17 UTC
Please make any necessary adjustments so that this package is emerge-able by default.

It seems that hcache is enabled via IUSE="+hcache". berkdb and gdbm are enabled by commonly inherited global profile defaults:

default/linux/make.defaults:USE="berkdb crypt ipv6 ncurses nls pam readline ssl tcpd zlib"

releases/make.defaults:USE="acl gdbm nptl unicode"

!!! Problem resolving dependencies for mail-client/mutt from @selected
... done!

!!! The ebuild selected to satisfy "mail-client/mutt" has unmet requirements.
- mail-client/mutt-1.7.2-r2::gentoo USE="berkdb crypt gdbm gpg hcache idn imap nls pop sasl smtp ssl -debug -doc (-gnutls) -kerberos -libressl -lmdb -mbox -nntp -notmuch -qdbm (-selinux) -sidebar -slang -smime -tokyocabinet -vanilla" ABI_X86="64"

The following REQUIRED_USE flag constraints are unsatisfied:
    hcache? ( exactly-one-of ( berkdb gdbm lmdb qdbm tokyocabinet ) )

The above constraints are a subset of the following complete expression:
    hcache? ( exactly-one-of ( berkdb gdbm lmdb qdbm tokyocabinet ) ) imap? ( exactly-one-of ( ssl gnutls libressl ) ) pop? ( exactly-one-of ( ssl gnutls libressl ) ) nntp? Comment 2 Mike Gilbert gentoo-dev 2017-01-27 03:40:46 UTC
These global USE defaults are kind of strange. I sent a note to gentoo-dev about it.

Let's see what that discussion turns into, I didn't notice this but I agree it needs solving one way or another.
Comment 4 Bruce Hill 2017-01-28 16:47:29 UTC
I can't comment in https://archives.gentoo.org/gentoo-dev/message/fc15da58ea81d9171ba340a8dbc10213 and don't want to get too deep into this, but have one point/observation I'd like to make, esp concerning https://archives.gentoo.org/gentoo-dev/message/451a4ee2ef2982121e9717d5d1c8b77e

mutt (upstream) uses tokyocabinet as it's default, mutt doesn't have lmdb support; that comes from neo-mutt (not sure which other db's mutt uses, vs. neomutt, but you guys can figure that out easily enough).

It is my understanding that mail-client/mutt in Gentoo was not supposed to be "neo-mutt", and neo-mutt was supposed to be obtained from this overlay: https://www.neomutt.org/distro/gentoo

I would like to see mail-client/mutt follow upstream, and add mail-client/neomutt to follow https://github.com/neomutt/gentoo-neomutt rather than having to use a separate overlay for neomutt. Thanks
Comment 5 Fabian Groffen gentoo-dev 2017-01-29 10:50:45 UTC
Sorry, Mutt in Gentoo has been for more than a decade with added feature patches. If you don't want that, then USE=vanilla is your thing.

Just for the record, the lmdb patch got adapted for Gentoo's Mutt, and is not equal to NeoMutt's. I've submitted the patch to Mutt upstream, and they said it's on the roadmap to include it.

Regarding NeoMutt, I contributed that ebuild/overlay to them, but I don't have time for maintaining the ebuilds for Gentoo, someone else can take that if they like.

I updated the ebuild and made it actually work (there were some little bugs which turned out to be upstream bugs). flatcap, NeoMutt’s maintainer will now update the overlay automatically.

Hmm.... I'm not understanding what I'm supposed to do here, as a user. I do not have hcache USE flag enabled anywhere (at least as euse -i reports), yet... I have a dependency conflict blocking portage. What's my next step? (I'm getting this on 1.9.4-r1, but I have 1.7.2 successfully installed from December.) If I'm supposed to pick "exactly-one-of" the selections listed, which should I choose? Thanks.
Comment 9 William Hubbs gentoo-dev 2018-04-07 18:17:14 UTC
Now this is affecting stable mutt-1.9.4-r1, at least on amd64.
We need to go back to the discussion on gentoo-dev and make a decision
one way or the other.
Comment 10 Fabian Groffen gentoo-dev 2018-04-07 20:02:41 UTC
I forgot about this bug. Annoyingly, I think sort of ignoring the default gdbm/berkdb will ease the pain. I'll look at this tomorrow.

Alternative is disabling hcache by default, but I guess that's kind of not cool.
