Created attachment 459156 [details] emerge --info I just installed Audacious 3.7.1 under the MATE desktop 1.12.1 on a reasonably current ("world" last updated 2016-12-22) amd64 (stable, not testing) system. The application's icon -- /usr/share/icons/hicolor/{48x48,scalable}/apps/audacious.{png,svg} -- is not showing up anywhere it's supposed to be: in the Applications > Sound & Video menu (the application is there and can be launched fine), in the panel's Workplace Switcher, in the ALT-TAB switcher, or even in the application's own window. I know both versions of the icon exist and (I assume) are not corrupt because I see their preview images when choosing an icon for the menu entry via Edit Menus. After choosing the icon, however, the icon doesn't show up in the Launcher Properties, and is not visible anywhere ele it should be. When I choose a different icon in the same directory (specifically, I chose "eyes"), it shows up in Launcher Properties and in the Applications > Sound & Video menu, but not in the 2 switchers nor in the app's window. Is this (similar to) a known issue for either Audacious or MATE? - - - Note: Attached 'emerge --info' is actually cut down from an 'emerge -v --info' with the last line ("Unset") from an 'emerge --info'. Wondering whether this is because the ebuild doesn't include: fdo-mime_desktop_database_update gnome2_icon_cache_update in 'pkg_postinst()'. I say this because the problem "fixed itself" after a while -- perhaps not coincidentally after I emerged 'thunderbird-bin-45.6.0' and 'firefox-bin-45.6.0', both of which include the above lines in their ebuilds.
