It's trying to pull in the sources to build, but cannot resolve the URL. This seems to be a DNS or network issue on your end. Cannot reproduce on my rig. This is the important line: "Failed to resolve address for github.com: Temporary failure in name resolution error: failed to fetch `https://github.com/rust-lang/crates.io-index`"

(In reply to Toralf Förster from comment #6) `$ ebuild wsta-0.5.0.ebuild fetch` only fetches the tarball with the wsta sources. When `compile` runs, `cargo` is run and it downloads the libraries. That is what fails for you. I see you have cargo installed. Try running the following command and tell me what happens: # cargo install --root /tmp/foo --git https://github.com/esphen/wsta

Try running the following command and tell > me what happens: > > # cargo install --root /tmp/foo --git https://github.com/esphen/wsta Fetching files during compile is explicitly forbidden and a major QA violation. You must ensure that the ebuild is entirely buildable within whatever's fetched via SRC_URI.
(In reply to Espen H from comment #7) beside that it works fine: mr-fox / # cargo install --root /tmp/foo --git https://github.com/esphen/wsta Updating git repository `https://github.com/esphen/wsta` Updating registry `https://github.com/rust-lang/crates.io-index` Downloading xdg v2.0.0 which points to sandbox as an additional issue the ebuild might have.

Hm, indeed. It's a shame I cannot reproduce, as that would make it a lot easier to fix the issue. Any pointers? (In reply to Michał Górny from comment #8) > (In reply to Espen H from comment #7) > You must ensure that the ebuild is entirely buildable within > whatever's fetched via SRC_URI. Hi Michał. Thanks, wasn't aware. I'll get to work on a fix. I see in the cargo eclass there is a function for this: https://github.com/gentoo/gentoo/blob/4719aa4072b1298169db3940d7aced6c574f29fa/eclass/cargo.eclass#L32
(In reply to Michał Górny from comment #8) The PR for the QA issue can be found here: https://github.com/gentoo/gentoo/pull/3288 I suspect this may be the root cause of Toralf's issue as well. Let's see if the issue resolves itself when the new ebuild is merged.
Try: FEATURES=network-sandbox
(In reply to Michał Górny from comment #12) > Try: > > FEATURES=network-sandbox Yep, that's it. I successfully reproduced Toralf's issue with the network-sandbox feature enabled in the current ebuild, but not with the ebuild from the PR.
Interestingly enough, having just tried to apply this PR I ended up with an error in src_install(): >>> Install wsta-0.5.0 into /var/tmp/portage/dev-util/wsta-0.5.0/image/ category dev-util Installing wsta v0.5.0 (file:///var/tmp/portage/dev-util/wsta-0.5.0/work/wsta-0.5.0) Finished release [optimized] target(s) in 0.0 secs Installing /var/tmp/portage/dev-util/wsta-0.5.0/image//usr/bin/wsta warning: be sure to add `/var/tmp/portage/dev-util/wsta-0.5.0/image//usr/bin` to your PATH to be able to run the installed binaries * ERROR: dev-util/wsta-0.5.0::local failed (install phase): * Installation failed * * Call stack: * ebuild.sh, line 115: Called src_install * environment, line 469: Called die * The specific snippet of code: * cargo_src_install || die "Installation failed"; Can anyone else see something similar?
(In reply to Marek Szuba from comment #14) > Can anyone else see something similar? I just merged it into my local portage tree, and I see it too. Easy to reproduce, just run `ebuild wsta-0.5.0.ebuild clean install`. Seems to be failing on this line in the cargo.eclass: https://github.com/gentoo/gentoo/blob/edb664cb587703559a05d2f9e6a75236b85834db/eclass/cargo.eclass#L129 It was added in this patch: https://github.com/gentoo/gentoo/commit/edb664cb587703559a05d2f9e6a75236b85834db That directory doesn't exist for this ebuild. I think what we are experiencing here is that the method returns 1 because of this line. That means the method fails, and the build stops (because of the `die` in the ebuild). I changed the line to this, and it worked on my machine: [ -d "${S}/man" ] && doman "${S}/man" || return 0
