It looks like an AppArmor automagic. I'd disable it unconditionally, as instead of just building support it appears to be attempting to interface with it at build time.

So what I see, this only happens, when sys-apps/apparmor is installed. It runs /sbin/apparmor_parser, to get a test on pulseaudio. On my system, which don't have AppArmor, running /sbin/apparmor_parser gives: Cache read/write disabled: interface file missing. (Kernel needs AppArmor 2.4 compatibility patch.) Warning: unable to find a suitable fs in /proc/mounts, is it mounted? Use --subdomainfs to override. It's the same message, as in the error. Looking into the Arch Wiki: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/AppArmor, I would say, this maybe would not fail, when the kernel will have enabled AppArmor: CONFIG_SECURITY_APPARMOR=y CONFIG_SECURITY_APPARMOR_BOOTPARAM_VALUE=1 CONFIG_DEFAULT_SECURITY_APPARMOR=y CONFIG_AUDIT=y I assume, this testbox here don't have this enabled? Since I don't have Apparmor to test, I see two options: 1) As described in Comment #4, patch disable this. 2) Make a new use flag apparmor and check for this kernel options. What do you think?
I talked to upstream, they are looking into it.
Fixed up stream. Will bump with 0.09.31, which should release in a couple of days.
0.09.31 is out. Filled a PR.
