When evince is built against gtk+-3.20.6, it core dumps on start. downgrading gtk+ and rebuilding evince resolves the problem. Maybe #587800 is related (no crashes there, but broken window layout. No, I don't have USE="debug" enabled for gtk+. But I do have full debugging symbols on my box via CFLAGS="$CFLAGS -ggdb".
