Since when I updated from Gentoo-Sources-4.1.6, while I watch a video (Usually on Youtube) the screen freezes, allowing only the mouse cursor to work and refusing any keyboard input. Audio keeps running normally. At times the freeze lasts a few seconds, allowing me to regain control of my system, but the video frame in the web page is frozen and audio keeps playing normally. Some other times the freeze lasts till I shut down the system forcibly. This happens with QuteBrowser and Firefox, the only browsers i tried. After the partial freeze, dmesg reports a ring hung in the GPU. If i'm using other applications with the video in background (for example to listen to a song) I noticed some graphical glitches in the windows, like scroll bars changing textures. My laptop uses Radeon/Intel hybrid technology with open source drivers. This is the only way I can reproduce the issue, but it happens at times while I'm doing GPU-intensive activities. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Update to a kernel more recent than 4.1.6 2. Use a browser to play a video on Youtube Actual Results: Full system freeze, forcing me to shut down the system at times. Or the system freezes for 5 to 10 seconds, gets back in control and the video frame is frozen. Expected Results: The video got played

Changing Video acceleration in Xorg.conf.d from "sna" to "uxa" makes SLiM crash immediately after starting, error: No Screens Found. Changing video acceleration in Xorg.conf.d from "sna" to "ilo" makes no difference. Using intel_pstates=disabled on the grub command line makes no difference. Using the option "NoAccel" in Xorg.conf.d makes slim crash as with the "uxa" acceleration option. Trying to set the "DRI" option to "3" in Xorg.conf.d doesn't have any effect.

I've run into similar issues.
I've tried to update to the latest version in the 4.1 branch, currently 4.1.13. The issue is not occurring in this version.

[ 218.283215] [drm] GPU HANG: ecode 6:-1:0x00000000, reason: Kicking stuck semaphore on render ring, action: continue On the face it, happens completely at random but with no obvious side effects other than a brief pause. Problem occurs with 4.1.15-r1, 4.3.3-r1 and 4.4.3 for me.
Is this still an issue with recent kernels?
This is not an issue with more recent kernels. Signing it as Solved + Fixed.
