Description Christian Strahl 2015-10-29 09:04:02 UTC
Please stabilize nvidia-settings-355.11

Reproducible: Always
Comment 1 Christian Strahl 2015-10-29 09:31:38 UTC
Would it be possible to simultaneously update and stabilize nvidia-settings and nvidia-drivers?

Perhaps by the same maintainer or a combined ebuild like suggested in Bug 562910.
Comment 2 Christian Strahl 2015-11-22 10:35:06 UTC
Are there any reasons against a stabilization of this package?
Comment 3 Christian Ruppert (idl0r) gentoo-dev 2015-11-23 07:02:18 UTC
Arch teams, please stabilize =media-video/nvidia-settings-355.11.

It's somewhat difficult to work with the/some nvidia-drivers maintainer. They actually don't want a separate nvidia-settings package and they actually prefer it to not exist at all anymore.

x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-355.11-r2 (which is "stable") seems to depend on media-video/nvidia-settings-355.11 (which is "testing").

Can all this situation be clarified a bit? It seems current stable exposes people to blockers. It seems that nvidia-settings is going to be dropped but, until that is done, a fixed version should be stabilized. Maybe 358.16?

Thanks

I have removed nvidia-settings package from my systems since the latest stable nvidia-drivers (361.28) are building nvidia-settings from source when +tools is set.

So I don't need the nvidia-settings package anymore.

It would have been easier if you provided versions of nvidia-settings for each supported branch of nvidia-drivers, but that never happened. So how was I being difficult? The difficulty was in the impossibility of using different branches of nvidia-drivers and -settings on the same system, and nvidia-settings maintainers never did anything to fix that problem.
