* * It seems like perl-cleaner had to rebuild some packages. * * If you have just updated your major Perl version (e.g. from 5.20.2 to 5.22.0), * and have run perl-cleaner _after_ that update, then this means most likely * that these packages are buggy. Please file a bug on http://bugs.gentoo.org/ and * report that perl-cleaner needed to reinstall the following list: * dev-perl/Locale-gettext:0 dev-perl/XML-Parser:0 dev-perl/Text-CSV:0 please report the output of: emerge --ignore-default-opts -uvptDN @world ( Please use an attachment if it is more than 5 lines of output ) Also, the contents of: grep -E 'perl-core|virtual/perl-' /var/lib/portage/world

Just as a note: In case this is important, after perl-cleaner --all i did also run emerge --depclean which removed 4 perl packages: >>> These are the packages that would be unmerged: virtual/perl-ExtUtils-Command selected: 1.200.0 protected: none omitted: none perl-core/ExtUtils-Manifest selected: 1.700.0 protected: none omitted: none perl-core/CPAN-Meta selected: 2.143.240 protected: none omitted: none virtual/perl-CPAN-Meta-Requirements selected: 2.132.0 protected: none omitted: none
emerge --depclean appears to be doing its job. Perhaps this should be noted in the upgrade steps that depclean is expected to be used to clean up some residual files that are no longer necessary. ( And that should clean all instances of virtual/, perl-core/, from your cleaning list ) After you've done that, can you run perl-cleaner again and feed the list into this code as follows and attach the results: for i in LIST_GOES_HERE; do equery list $i; done

I think this bug can be closed. (except you want to keep it open for adding that note?)
@perl team: TL;DR - Perl cleaner should say to depclean - Perl cleaner should ideally have a way of knowing if it can depclean things (Wishful thinking) - Perl should encourage depclean Both need to specifically mention that virtual/* and perl-core/* removals are somewhat expected.

Nice idea. But... the problem is that you should have depcleaned **before syncing**. The moment you have synced and the Perl update is pending, you can't depclean...
Current perl elog messages tell people to depclean before running perl-cleaner... wouldn't it be enough? :/ Or do you want to prevent perl-cleaner from doing anything *before* depcleaning to force people to depclean?

The combination of all these issues makes it hard to improve anything. This said, perl-cleaner is rarely needed *if* you depclean these days...
