Description Fabian Köster 2014-03-13 22:13:05 UTC
I installed dev-db/postgresql-server-9.3.3 and called

# emerge --config =dev-db/postgresql-server-9.3.3

When trying to start the server with

# systemctl start postgresql-9.3

it returns

Job for postgresql-9.3.service failed. See 'systemctl status postgresql-9.3.service' and 'journalctl -xn' for details

journalctl -xn gives:

Mar 13 23:10:23 eifel pg_ctl[15101]: pg_ctl: could not start server
Mar 13 23:10:23 eifel pg_ctl[15101]: Examine the log output.

In /var/lib/postgresql/9.3/data/postmaster.log it says:

FATAL: could not create lock file "/run/postgresql/.s.PGSQL.5432.lock": No such file or directory

My workaround is to create the directory, and give it to user postgres:

# mkdir /run/postgresql/
# chown -R postgres:postgres /run/postgresql/

Reproducible: Always

This directory is created by systemd-tmpfiles on boot. And you can do this manually:

systemd-tmpfiles --create /usr/lib/tmpfiles.d/postgresql-9.3.conf

Seems like this is user error. If it isn't, reopen.
