I created an ebuild for the proprietary firmware plugin for the Epson scanner GT-1500. Tested it with media-gfx/iscan-2.29.3.1  from bug #498524

Reproducible: Always

You need to dowload the file manually from Epson (Search for GT-1500):

Btw: This scanner does not seem to work on USB3 ("Superspeed") ports. I saw other users reporting this issue. Use an USB2 port or otherwise it may not work as expected.
