Did you try with supported flags, like -O2 instead of -O3 (which is insane when globally set)?
(In reply to Samuli Suominen from comment #2) > Did you try with supported flags, like -O2 instead of -O3 (which is insane > when globally set)? Yes, and it compiled this time. I noticed a QA notice at the end which may explain the difficulty at -O3.

I noticed a QA notice at the end which may > explain the difficulty at -O3. Sorry, I don't see any QA warning in the build.log, can you be more specific? And let me just verify, you can reproduce the bug everytime when using -O3, but it compiles everytime with -O2? I mean, we can filter out -O3 in flac's ebuild, but before doing that, I'd like to have something in the record. Also, there is a new FLAC version in tree which is still in package.mask, please try adding media-libs/flac to /etc/portage/package.unmask and test also 1.3.0 with the different -O2 vs. -O3, is the bug reproducible still there? Also, why don't you have any -march= set in CFLAGS, CXXFLAGS? It just looks like misconfigured system to have hard optimizations like -O3 without a -march= of anykind, like -march=native, which leads me to the next question, does the different versions compile if you add -march=native? Please try different combinations of both versions. Thanks!
Plus, make sure this is not a parallel make problem, by setting MAKEOPTS="-j1" temporarily? Parallel make problems can be random, like every second compile works, every second fails I'm asking all this stupid questions because the build.log is very vague :-/

Here is a copy of the QA notice from the -O2 build: * QA Notice: Package triggers severe warnings which indicate that it * may exhibit random runtime failures. * /usr/include/bits/string3.h:104:3: warning: call to __builtin___memcpy_chk will always overflow destination buffer [enabled by default] * Please do not file a Gentoo bug and instead report the above QA * issues directly to the upstream developers of this software. * Homepage: http://flac.sourceforge.net

I'm opening stabilization request for 1.3.0 now, please reopen with updated build.log if 1.3.0 is still giving problems.
Bug 507006 for stabilization of 1.3.0
