libspiro is a library for simplifying the drawing of beautiful curves. It is used by FontForge to handle outline fonts.

I'd suggest media-libs/libspiro. The ebuild file will install the library from fontforge's GitHub repository if it is renamed to libspiro-9999.ebuild.

Please try today's libspiro HEAD on github.
tagpoint 20131203 did not have the variables in configure.ac fixed yet at that point, but this problem is already resolved in HEAD (as per today's date).
More info for this problem can be found by reading bugfix for freebsd at https://bugs.freebsd.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=196780 and archlinux has also confirmed okay with bug https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/43373

Please try HEAD before this time so that we can add any additional fixes if necessary to fix this bug. You can find this at:

Target for new libspiro 0.3.20150xxx release is Jan31.

Thanks! I renamed the ebuild file in my overlay to libspiro-0.3.20150131.ebuild and succeeded to install it. Also, I confirmed that LIBSPIRO_VERSION didn't include '$'.

libspiro 0.4.20150701 has been released. Renaming the ebuild should be fine.
