Hi, in bug 496336 the reporter ask you to make the DNS switch optional, because he's not using glibc. That's fine. His proposed patch only added a new switch, which should be enabled per default, because most Gentoo profiles relies on glibc. So with his proposed patch, he and other would be able to disable the feature they cannot use but the patch wouldn't affect most setups. Now, because you committed a different patch (e.g. you did *not* enable "dns" by default) you changed the default behavior and now force most user to set a USE flag by hand. => Bad defaults. Please enable "dns" per default. Reproducible: Always
no actual justification for enabling it by default here pciutils relies on hwids. we keep hwids up to date. pciutils uses that by default (a file on disk). thus the dns support is rarely used by people, and defaulting it to on makes no sense.
