temporary workaround: eselect fontconfig disable 65-fonts-persian.conf
*** Bug 455264 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. ***
Even that 455264's OP can't get it to work with the temporary workaround suggestion here, it's still the same bug.
(In reply to comment #3) > *** Bug 455264 has been marked as a duplicate of this bug. *** googleearth-7.0.2.8415 segfaults in /usr/lib32/libexpat.so.1 from emul-linux-x86-baselibs-20121202 They are talking about libexpat in the openSUSE bugreport here: fontconfig 2.9.0 makes google-earth 7.x crash https://bugzilla.novell.com/show_bug.cgi?id=798644
Same segfault here. Disabling 65-fonts-persian.conf doesn't work. Haven't tried building expat with "-Bsymbolic-links" as mentioned on novell bugzilla.

(In reply to comment #7) > LDFLAGS='-Wl,-O1 -Wl,--as-needed -Wl,-Bsymbolic-functions' emerge -av1 > --usepkg=n expat > > didn't work for me Tried that as well but then I noticed that this changes /usr/lib64/libexpat.so.1.6.0 (from dev-libs/expat), and not /usr/lib32/libexpat.so.1 (from app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-baselibs) where the actual issue lies; I've reported a summary of the issue in bug #455284 such that they take can take a look into this or at least track the resolution.

Created attachment 337836 [details] googleearth-7.0.2.8415-r1.ebuild This googleearth ebuild fetches a prebuilt expat which includes the suse patches and installs those expat libs into it's basedir. I don't have experience with prebuilt library shipping, so I just attach this here for now.
(In reply to comment #10) > This googleearth ebuild fetches a prebuilt expat which includes the suse > patches and installs those expat libs into it's basedir. Thank you, startup segfault gone from my system.
Another way of getting rid of the seqfault is to remove $HOME/.drirc if it exists. But in the end it all comes down to a fault in (the use of) libexpat. What changes if any have to be applied to the system (emul-linux-x86) version of expat to avoid such errors?
As an observation, the expat parser seems to crash on files starting with the <?xml version="1.0"?> processing instruction. Taking the PI out allows googleearth to process the rest of such a file correctly.

What changes if any have to be applied to the system > (emul-linux-x86) version of expat to avoid such errors? This is not true, what you suggest is a temporary solution to an entirely different stack trace. See bug #455284 for solutions to the Expat stack trace listed in this bug report, although it won't serve as solutions to the DRI stack trace.

Taking the PI out allows > googleearth to process the rest of such a file correctly. Interesting, although this doesn't seem acceptable as a fix to media-libs/fontconfig. Hmm... Is there maybe something in the file that is not XML-1.0?
I just took the freedom to commit this as a revbump, blame me if it breaks more shit +*googleearth-7.0.2.8415-r1 (04 Feb 2013) + + 04 Feb 2013; Julian Ospald <hasufell@gentoo.org> + +googleearth-7.0.2.8415-r1.ebuild: + revbump to fix bug #455124
