it's not reasonable to assume the spec is up to date, futhermore, it's definately not safe to assume the desktop-file-validation is up to date, or even correct people can't just go on patching the .desktop files blindly, adding wrong X- to silence the warning just makes the program misbehave the status of the spec is currently about this: KDE does it's own things to .desktop files -> nobody commits the KDE stuff to the spec Vincent Untz has been keeping GNOME stuff up to date It is me, and other distribution maintainers who keep the XFCE related stuff there up to date As shown by: http://cgit.freedesktop.org/xdg/xdg-specs/log/ so as noted by bug 443288, it should not only be visible to ~arch users, but also only by maintainer request after verifying the output is correct -> if not, then submit things to the freedesktop xdg mailing list for inclusion (feel free to mark as duplicate if you think it's appropiate)
Yes please do. I've seen quite a few upstream bugs about .desktop files being closed as INVALID. The warning can be misleading quite a few times.
uh, kensington has made pretty good job cleaning out the wrong offender, i'm just going to close this for now, sorry for noise

The warning can be misleading quite a few times. yep but we really need to recheck the situation. the old bugs that were filed might be already sorted out, as kensington pointed out at IRC
