Description Janick Martinez Esturo 2012-10-19 07:26:02 UTC
Nvidia has release drivers with OpenGL4.3 support that fix the notorious flash blue tint bug:

http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux-display-amd64-310.14-driver.html

However, they seemed to have changed some details of the installed libs and the ebuild needs some modifications to support this version.

Reproducible: Always

Its a beta driver, which we don't support. We definitely don't support the very first beta release in a series.

The blue tint in flash was fixed in libvdpau as noted by the release notes. We don't use the binary version shipped with the driver but instead depend on libvdpau so this fix has been in Gentoo for a while.

Ok, I understand that argument. Alright, its good to know about the libvdpau solution, but I'm mainly interested in the OpenGL4.3 capabilities (i.e., especially the compute-shader support) of the driver. It would be ok for me if this driver is masked due to its beta status, but I guess that further releases of the series will have a similar library structure such that they could easily be integrated into portage once the portation has been done initialy, which could also be done with this driver release :)

310 serie is stable now.

<aaronp__> Kind of a complex update today.
<aaronp__> 310.14 -> 310.19
<aaronp__> 310.* is no longer beta, and it's the new long-lived branch.
<aaronp__> That makes 304.* a legacy branch now.

Its bug noise like this that make me want to not put the ebuild into the tree for weeks. I am more than aware that a release came out. In fact you're late to the party, you posted the original bug only about 2 hours after the tarballs were officially available, how could you possibly have survived that long without the absolute latest and greatest new release?

Never ever post stuff like this or open bugs for that ever again.

310.14 was released on 2012-10-11, more then 4 weeks ago.

We don't support or add beta versions to Gentoo which is what 310.14 is.

Yesterday the official 310.19 was released, which is no beta driver anymore.

How big are the chances that this one will be included? There is already another bug describing the required ebuild changes of the 310 driver series.

Gentoo developers are volunteers that volunteer their time consider that fact. We are not compensated for any of this work and as a result we all have jobs that we have to work on first, then most of us have families and lives at home where we need to dedicate our time to as well. Then and only then do we have time to dedicate to Gentoo, unfortunately I've been spending my free time (Gentoo time) responding to bugs like this one and e-mails from people rather than actually getting dev work done. So we can continue this bug spam or you can give me time to get the ebuild tested and added to the tree.

Other options are always to become a Gentoo developer yourself, which I would encourage everyone with an interest in Gentoo to become. Or if there's ebuilds that are especially important to you we can work out an arraignment at my standard consulting rate and they'll receive appropriate priority.
