Description Gerhard Hintermayer 2012-09-19 11:49:49 UTC
On a sna enabled Xserver sometimes I get a freeze of X11 display, just before Characters in Terminal are scrambled.
In Xorg.log I see:
[ 183.223] [mi] EQ overflowing. Additional events will be discarded until existing events are processed.
[ 183.223]
[ 183.223] Backtrace:
[ 183.224] 0: /usr/bin/X (xorg_backtrace+0x4a) [0x81cb35a]
[ 183.224]
[ 183.224] [mi] These backtraces from mieqEnqueue may point to a culprit higher up the stack.
[ 183.224] [mi] mieq is *NOT* the cause. It is a victim.
[ 184.397] [mi] EQ overflow continuing. 100 events have been dropped.
[ 184.397]
[ 184.397] Backtrace:

[ 184.398]
[ 185.027] [mi] EQ overflow continuing. 200 events have been dropped.
[ 185.027]
[ 185.027] Backtrace:
[ 185.027] 0: /usr/bin/X (xorg_backtrace+0x4a) [0x81cb35a]
[ 185.028]

happens also with 2.20.8

Reproducible: Didn't try

Steps to Reproduce:
my 1st thought, don't know if it is real cause
1. open popup which contains unicode small zero \u2080 and quiver some window at same time using tcl/tk
2. after that for some secs buttons under mouse get scrambled
3. typing in Terminal makes strange characters, then freeze :-(
4. have to kill -9
Actual Results:
X freezes, have to kill -9

Expected Results:
no X crash/freeze

So this happens with sna and not with uxa? On both xorg-server-1.12 and 1.13?

cannot try 1.13 because of dependancy of tigervnc (not available in portage for xorg-server 1.13 yet)
try to check with uxa and will reply ...
Comment 3 Chí-Thanh Christopher Nguyễn gentoo-dev 2012-09-19 13:34:08 UTC
This is happening while tigervnc is active or not (ie. its xorg module is loaded)? If yes, your issue might be similar to bug 381123.

Definitely not reproducable with uxa.

The problem seems to be the unicode character (subscript zero) in the popup.
I display something like "F\u2080 smaller than 20 and therefore\ncomment required"

with sna I only see "F\ncomment required"

with uxa the message is displayed correct.

thats weird ...

The tigervnc module is loaded, but no VNC connection to screen.
regarding to 381123 it might be interesting to try with sna, but unfortunately I didn't find some time for that yet.
Comment 6 Rémi Cardona (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-11-28 21:19:56 UTC
Please try reproducing the issue without the tigervnc module loaded, as its mere presence might trigger weird bugs.

It could help pinpointing the underlying bug.

Thanks
