Same here. Copying the .texi files from the source dir to the _build dir allows the compilation to finish.
should be fixed in cvs (parallel build issue). re-opened if not.
It still fails for me with the same error as before.
Bug still not fixed. /bin/sh /var/tmp/portage/sci-mathematics/octave-3.6.0/work/octave-3.6.0/build-aux/missing --run makeinfo -D AUTHORSONLY \ --no-validate --no-headers --no-split --output AUTHORS preface.texi preface.texi:82: @include `contributors.texi': No such file or directory. makeinfo: Removing output file `AUTHORS' due to errors; use --force to preserve. make[3]: [../../AUTHORS] Error 1 (ignored) mv AUTHORS ../../AUTHORS mv: cannot stat `AUTHORS': No such file or directory make[3]: *** [../../AUTHORS] Error 1

I can't reproduce here with either -j32 or -j5. Could someone confirm?
(In reply to comment #10) > I can't reproduce here with either -j32 or -j5. Could someone confirm? This is not related to parallel make. I can reproduce this with '-j1'. This is "separate build" issue. This is how I got over this error: $ emerge -v octave # failure here $ cp ${WORKDIR}/octave-3.6.0/doc/interpreter/contributors.texi \ ${WORKDIR}/octave-3.6.0_build/doc/interpreter $ cd /usr/portage/sci-mathematics/octave $ ebuild octave-3.6.0.ebuild compile # compiles OK $ ebuild octave-3.6.0.ebuild install $ ebuild octave-3.6.0.ebuild qmerge
(In reply to comment #11) > > $ emerge -v octave # failure here > $ cp ${WORKDIR}/octave-3.6.0/doc/interpreter/contributors.texi \ > ${WORKDIR}/octave-3.6.0_build/doc/interpreter > $ cd /usr/portage/sci-mathematics/octave > $ ebuild octave-3.6.0.ebuild compile # compiles OK if you look at {WORKDIR}/octave-3.6.0/doc/interpreter/Makefile.am, you will see that contributors.texi is a Makefile generated file. also it works perfectly on my end, so that's why I suspect a parallel make issue.
(In reply to comment #12) > > if you look at {WORKDIR}/octave-3.6.0/doc/interpreter/Makefile.am, you will see > that contributors.texi is a Makefile generated file. also it works perfectly on > my end, so that's why I suspect a parallel make issue. 'contributors.texi' already exist in sources. Looks like it is not regenerated in build tree. This is the only reasonable explanation I have. Probably deleting "contributors.texi" after source unpack, will solve this issue.
(In reply to comment #10) > I can't reproduce here with either -j32 or -j5. Could someone confirm? As I said in comment #6, I also have this problem. I'm "solving" it by copying the .texi files from octave to octave_build while portage is compiling (before reaching the error). Emerging with -j1 doesn't solve it.
i removed the contributors.texi after unpacking, it should fix it (3.6.1 only).
The bug has been referenced in the following commit(s): https://gitweb.gentoo.org/repo/gentoo.git/commit/?id=9bf0c5ed22569b38b971412c57fb17c08c2abc64 commit 9bf0c5ed22569b38b971412c57fb17c08c2abc64 Author: Michael Orlitzky <mjo@gentoo.org> AuthorDate: 2020-03-27 18:41:36 +0000 Commit: Michael Orlitzky <mjo@gentoo.org> CommitDate: 2020-03-27 18:42:04 +0000 sci-mathematics/octave: new version 5.2.0 sans imagemagick support. This new version drops two patches (zlib underlinking and qt-5.11 support) that have been fixed upstream in other ways. Unfortunately, it also temporarily disables USE=imagemagick, because the upstream support for imagemagick is broken. In the past, we have carried custom patches to fix that, but they no longer apply, and upstream has hinted that the approach they take will not be accepted. So to get this out the door, the simplest thing to do is to follow upstream and throw imagemagick under a bus.
