this is something the portage/devrel teams would write for the developer handbook; not something the gdp would do, since it's not end-user documentation.
In the future? When? I don't think this bug makes sense right now. We can't document something we don't use or something that we have no idea how it would be in the future. Once git becomes reality we will document some bits

We also use svn in overlays but we don't have an svn documentation. The devrel handbook and the devmanual are mainly for the official tree. If you want to learn about git then there are excellent resources out there http://progit.org/book/
