Description Lucas Treffenstädt 2012-01-05 19:01:18 UTC
I recently switched to ati-drivers (fglrx) because some of my games won't run smoothly with mesa and xf86-video-ati.
Because of https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=391193 I switched mplayer2 to -vo gl. To my surprise, the result was as shown in this screencast I took:
http://vimeo.com/34623273
Nevermind mplayer saying my system was too slow: What you can see is that the video plays smoothly as long as I keep moving the mouse around. As soon as I stop, it won't play anymore.
The same happens to an ogre3d-based program I happend to have lying around, and I assume I'd get the same results with any opengl App I'd test.

I'm using x11-base/xorg-server-1.11.2-r2 and x11-drivers/ati-drivers-11.11

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.Emerge x11-drivers/ati-drivers-11.11
2.eselect opengl set ati
3.fire up mplayer2 -vo gl
4.move mouse around
Actual Results:
The video plays smoothly as long as I keep moving the mouse and stops playing when I don't move.

Expected Results:
Mplayer2 plays video independently of mouse movement

Maybe it is an interrupt issue. What happens if you boot with pci=nomsi kernel parameter?
Comment 2 Lucas Treffenstädt 2012-01-05 19:36:13 UTC
correction: This problem ocurrs with ati-drivers-11.12, not 11.11.
I have to try the pci=nomsi option with 11.12 yet
Comment 3 Lucas Treffenstädt 2012-01-05 19:42:08 UTC
further inspection revealed that I forgot to deactivate DRM in the Kernel, which the ebuild already warns about at build time. Nevermind the bug report ^^

So does it work disabling DRM? Here mplayer2 works as expected, i always use it to watch movies.
Comment 5 Lucas Treffenstädt 2012-01-06 14:35:20 UTC
Yes, disableing DRM fixed the problem.
Comment 6 Enrico Tagliavini 2012-01-06 14:40:28 UTC
Ok I'm glad it works then :)
