Description Thomas Kahle (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-09-25 17:44:43 UTC
ktsuss has unfixed security issues and dead upstream.
Please update the deps of your ebuild. Can be replaced by
gksu or kdesu

Here is the simple patch removing the ktsuss dependency. Ktsuss might still be used by the program if installed, though. Should this get patched away too or is it unimportant?

Changing the ebuild is no problem, I guess. The question: What is the worst trouble you could run into if you have ktsuss installed, then install portato, then remove ktsuss. Will portato still run? But all that's basically in your realm as the developer, I think. Just see if you think your users will be harassed when ktsuss gets dropped from the tree.

The graphical su implementation to use is detected at runtime. So it is not a problem to remove ktsuss after installation as long as any alternative is installed (I hope, that this is managed by portage).
Comment 4 Thomas Kahle (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-09-28 10:31:31 UTC
Yes, portage will make sure that there is at least one implementation of a graphical su. Great. @maintainer: Feel free to update the deps, or I'll do it as part of the removal of ktsuss in October.
Thanks!

Hi, I'm hijacking this bug for the readd. ktsuss was revived in bug 401123 and is waiting for new ppc and ppc64 keywords in bug 401833.
