From the very beginning LiveCD asked me for a root password. There was no chance to set the new password or user. Standard combinations were also denied. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Boot from the LiveCD. Actual Results: LiveCD asked for a root password. Expected Results: The software should be loaded without password.
Could you state exactly which livecd media you're using? A download URL for where you got it would also be helpful.
Also, the boot options you used.
Ian, here is the link: http://distfiles.gentoo.org/releases/x86/autobuilds/current-iso/install-x86-minimal-20110802.iso Panagiotis, what do you mean by the boot options? I've changed some settings in BIOS, that's all.
In the first prompt you just pressed "enter" or you entered more options? (for example "gentoo-nofb nosata option2 option3 etc" )
Panagiotis, I pressed enter.

This has nothing to do with the boot settings. This is an issue with catalyst, openrc and how we build the stages / livecd.
Sorry for taking so long to address this bug - RL got in the way. Can you confirm you're still hitting this issue with the 20110802 iso? I just tested it here on qemu-kvm and it booted fine. I've also tested 20110809 iso and it's also working fine. Now that I've tested the CDs, I wonder if you may have have left the timeout expire and booted into your installed system instead of booting to the CD. One of the changes we got implemented recently is that the CD will after a timeout without a key being pressed try to boot the installed system instead of booting the CD.
@docs: I'm adding you here as we should probably document in the handbook that the CD will only boot the install if the user presses a key. I'm sorry for not talking to you about it before, but it slipped my mind.

I cannot reproduce this on latest "install-x86-minimal-20110809.iso" which brings me to this question. Are you actually hitting ENTER after you see the boot prompt? If not then it's booting your first hard drive and this was recently implemented to the release images to allow remote installs were there is no user interaction after the first initial livecd boot. @docs as jmbsvicetto pointed out, this should be noted on the handbook. likewhoa
Is it possible that this is only for x86 and amd64? Most installation instructions use different methods for booting the CD: - in Alpha we ask the user to select the CD through SRM or MILO. /If/ the CD would indeed give a time-out, I would assume that the user gets back to the prompt (and not boot the disk)? - ARM uses netboot - HPPA works through the BOOT_ADMIN console, not sure what happens here - IA64 talks about EFI (I guess that is the boot loader) where the user has to explicitly ask to boot from CD - perhaps here too if the timeout occurs, it goes back to EFI? - MIPS uses netboot - Sparc goes through OBP For PPC/PPC64 I'm not sure if this also applies. I'll update this for x86 and amd64 for now, but please tell me if this is necessary for others as well.
Added the following paragraph for x86/amd64: """ When the boot prompt is shown, you get the option of displaying the available kernels (F1) and boot options (F2). If you make no selection within 20 seconds (either displaying information or using a kernel) then the LiveCD will fall back to booting from disk. This allows installations to reboot and try out their installed environment without the need to remove the CD from the tray (something well appreciated for remote installations). """ In CVS, should show up on the site in an hour or so. For other architectures, please verify the installation instructions for your architecture and see if a similar paragraph needs to be added or not.
Sven, thanks for taking care of amd64/x86. @release: Can other arch release coordinators please check and or report whether this change applies to their arches?
@release: Anything left to do here? amd64/x86 is done.
