after much work, bluez applications will not work on my machine due to module problems. I've added all possible bluethooth and PCMCIA options as modules and still no go. I have built affix and affix kernel from source and could connect to my Sony-Ericcson T610, though I can't get file transfer to work yet. afe fails to buils, complaining of python-gtk problems. Affix seems to me to be a better choice for bluetooth conectivity http://affix.sourceforge.net/

closing this as won't fix because bluez seems to work for most people and its already included in 2.6 kernel.
