Description Heavenly Avenger 2011-04-10 21:19:25 UTC
I have two boxes. One behind a firewall and another directly connected to the internet.

On the first, I've just done 'emerge-webrsync' and when I 'emerge -a gcc', I am presented with gcc-4.4.5.

On the other, 'emerge --sync'ed yesterday, gave me 'gcc-4.5.2' instead. Is emerge-webrsync out of date? Shall I open

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.emerge-webrsync
2.emerge -a gcc
3.
Actual Results:
Shows gcc-4.4.5 available

Expected Results:
Shows gcc-4.5.2 available

As it is due back to 2002, and seems its not the case (as webrsync downloaded a snapshot from yesterday, 20110409 ISO), I felt like opening this issue appropriate.
This is a fresh gentoo install (a couple weeks old), and emerge --info is as follows:

where you read:
"On the other, 'emerge --sync'ed yesterday, gave me 'gcc-4.5.2' instead. Is
emerge-webrsync out of date? Shall I open"

The 'Shall I open' was typed by mistake. My bad. :)

Okay, it's me again. The said related bug links down to this, which is the one I meant to link: http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=9946
Sorry. Anyway, as one bug is the replica of another, both are related to this problem.

gcc-4.5.2 is not stable. do you have custom package.keywords settings ?

what server exactly are you syncing from when you use webrsync ? how about plain --sync ?

I have, in make.conf:
ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86"

and no package.keywords nor package.accept_keywords (actually I have just package.use under /etc/portage (and the bin, postsync.d and savedconfig dirs as well). Maybe gcc-4.5.2 is not masked anymore just for x86 and still masked for amd64?..
package.use has just one line which reads 'dev-vcs/subversion "-dso"'.

Thing is, I did emerge --sync on the machine running a x86 gentoo. It has no firewall. There, I am presented to gcc-4.5.2 unmasked and I have just the ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" above. No package.keywords nor package.accept_keywords.

Where I did emerge-webrsync was on a machine running on x86_64/amd64 gentoo. It is indeed behind a nasty firewall which blocks rsync's port. Here, I am presented with gcc-4.4.5 on emerge, as last stable gcc version. -here- I do have package.accept_keywords, specifying some compiz-fusion packages, nautilus-dropbox, gitolite and tinc. But this is the machine showing the older gcc version.

I've read somewhere else that gcc-4.5.2 was on stable branch (although I can't find the place again), but it must have been just for ~x86.

If I am right about 4.5.2 being stable for x86 and not for amd64, I guess this bug should be marked as 'Resolved-Invalid'. I am really sorry if I really made an incorrect bug report. But if gcc-4.5.2 is really not meant to be shown to ~x86 stable, then there still can be something wrong around.
