I tried to use fetchmail, which has to deliver mails from outside pop server to my own server running cyrus-imapd. Fetchmail delivers the mail via "/usr/lib/cyrus/deliver %T" (specified in /etc/fetchmailrc). It is running as uid fetchmail. Now deliver fails with the error message "couldn't connect to lmtpd: Permission denied". After investigating I changed the permissions for deliver: cd /usr/lib/cyrus chgrp mail deliver chmod 2755 deliver Now it works. I am not sure if this is the right solution, but it is working.

I'm not sure, whether this is only a problem in my installation or not, since no one seems to have the same problem. I'm beginning to doubt to be this an error. But I don't know what I did wrong in my installation. In the meantime, I switched to courier-imapd and removed cyrus-imapd because of too many complications going from version 2.x to 3.x. For 3.0.4 I testes this on an older backup where cyrus-imapd was installed. I propose to close this bug, since no one else have this problem. So it must be me.
I also have $ ls -l /usr/sbin/deliver -rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 52592 jun 9 13:22 /usr/sbin/deliver But I don't know why that is wrong
