Description the_mgt 2011-01-14 01:15:57 UTC
While emerging texlive with LINGUAS="de" in make.conf, dev-texlive/texlive-langgerman does not get installed. This might be the case for other languages as well, I think.

I recently set up a new system, emerged Lyx and texlive. You'd think everything is working in german, since Lyx has german userinterface and uses german aspell dictionary. But when it comes to hyphenation, all is messed up. Thats due to missing texlive-langgerman package. Possibly annoys users who don't use Lyx, too. I just think a german user might expect to find german hyphenation working out of the box.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. set LINGUAS="DE"
2. emerge texlive
3. compile a german text

Actual Results:
Messed up hyphenation

Expected Results:
Working german hyphenation

Please post the output of
# emerge -pv texlive
as well as your emerge --info so we know which version of texlive you are talking about.

Sorry, my fault (also I don't understand why I doubleposted this bug)!
Seems that Lyx pulls in a lot of texlive, but not the app-text/texlive-PV package, but some selective parts. So while texlive-core is a dep of some of the pulled dependencies and you get almost the complete Texlive distribution, you don't get the meta-package app-text/texlive.
That's why linguas didn't get triggered and I was missing out on german hyphenation. I also had to manually emerge some latexextras and bibtexextras, but I thought they simply were not part of the whole Textlive suite. (Which I thought I had installed, sorry again for falsely claiming this as a bug!)
I don't know how many similiar bug reports you get, but I think that users of Lyx do want the whole texlive bundle to just work, so that they don't have to search for missing files/packages like I did. Maybe Lyx should just depend on the texlive meta package. More hardcore Tex users can still cherry pick what they need.

Conclusion:
I use Texlive-2010, but didnt have the meta-package installed, I just emerged that package and a lot of stuff got pulled in, including langgerman. So I close this bug as INVALID, but I might open one for Lyx, if you agree with my writings above.
