Description Sergey S. Starikoff 2010-12-15 16:54:53 UTC
On my home PC I'm using HP LaserJet 1018 printer (connected via USB, net-print/foo2zjs-2008112 driver, net-print/cups-1.3.11-r4).

The problem is in handling errors (returning to normal operation after an error: sending print task on turned off printer).

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Print something (to ensure the normal configuration of printer);
2. Reproduce error (turn printer off and send on it some print task);
3. Turn printer on (and see that, unlike windows, the print task from the spoll wasn't printed);
4. Try to send some another print task.

Actual Results:
See nothing (no print).
Neither after turning printer on nor after sending new task no one is printed.
Removing tasks from spool don't help to print new one.

Expected Results:
Normal print.

I don't guess about way to return printer to normal operability.

have you tried the net-print/hplip diver it normally is the best option for hp printers

But openprinting.org recommends for this printer foo2zjs driver.

And I'm not shure, that it's the problem of the printer (and the driver).
Could anyone check this bug with another desktop (USB) printer?
Comment 3 Ben Sagal 2010-12-16 17:52:30 UTC
look like you are right, this printer needs foo2zjs and not hplip.
the version in portage is howerver very old (see Bug #263494) which could be the problem
Comment 4 Andreas K. Hüttel archtester gentoo-dev 2012-01-24 22:32:09 UTC
That version is not in the tree anymore. Your only option atm is the 'live' ebuild.
