Description Marek Wróbel 2010-11-26 19:31:51 UTC
There is a line in /etc/init.d/udev that prevents udev from starting in virtual servers:

# udev does not work inside vservers
keyword novserver nolxc noopenvz

Probably it was a problem some time ago, but now udev works very well in OpenVZ containers. Actually, there are not many device nodes to be managed in a container, but one of the reasons I would like to have udev is that it gives automatic /etc/init.d/net.* startup.

I suggest that this line should be changed not to exclude OpenVZ, or I would like to get a reason why it is excluded.

PS
I have found #310427, but there is only a statement "udev also doesnt work in openvz" without further explanation.

Reproducible: Always

Alexey, why you've stated that udev does not work in openvz in comment #1 bug 310427?
Comment 2 Marek Wróbel 2011-02-02 22:55:14 UTC
Any updates on the topic?
Comment 3 Peter Volkov (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-02-03 09:06:31 UTC
I think we need to drop noopenvz from udev init script.

@udev, ping! :)

Removed noopenvz in udev-164-r2.
