Lacking this dependency, one gets: ximian-connector-setup: error while loading shared libraries: liblinc.so.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
You most likely removed linc yourself while a library that is used by ximian-connector still links to it. Rebuild that library (revdep-rebuild is the usual tool to do that).
I hit this one too. When starting evolution you will get Cannot activate component OAFIID:GNOME_Evolution_ExchangeStorage_ShellComponent : The error from the activation system is: Child process did not give an error message, unknown failure occurred ximian-connector has no dependancy on linc, so it was never installed via 'emerge ximian-connector'.
I forgot connector is partially a binary isn't it (i don't have it) ? It might be it needs linc after all, but check out bug #34805 first and make sure the problem described there is not the same as the problem here.

I had the same error and found that connector was dependent on Kerberos4, so I added the krb4 use flag and remerged mit-krb. Problem went away.
this bug has nothing to do with krb .. so i'm not sure what that last comment is about. anyway, this bug should be closed, i've added the net-libs/linc dep to ximian-connector-1.4.6*
