---[ end trace 4b1fe173426d2725 ]---

This trace is pf-sources but gentoo-sources-2.6.35-r9 gives the same effect.
The bug is hit every time I try to load the omnibook module.
My laptop is Toshiba Satellite P200.
Comment 1 marbacz 2010-10-04 20:45:00 UTC
Oh, forgot to mention, I use up-to-date ~amd64.
Comment 2 Mike Pagano gentoo-dev 2010-10-05 17:20:23 UTC
what kernel is this? Is it: http://freshmeat.net/projects/pf-patchset ?
Comment 3 marbacz 2010-10-05 17:41:16 UTC
> This trace is pf-sources but gentoo-sources-2.6.35-r9 gives the same effect.

After seeing the BUG on gentoo kernel, I tried pf-sources, but no difference.
Comment 4 Mike Pagano gentoo-dev 2010-10-05 18:03:36 UTC
emerge --info with gentoo kernel that failed, please.

Can't reproduce it

root@Eternity ~ # modprobe omnibook

I use the latest pf-sources
Comment 7 marbacz 2010-10-15 17:46:54 UTC
Ok... I tried to bisect which kernel fails, but what I found is even with the latest kernel the omnibook module works fine if I compile it (module) with GCC 4.4 (gcc version 4.4.4 (Gentoo 4.4.4-r2 p1.2, pie-0.4.5)). Compiled with GCC 4.5 (gcc version 4.5.1 (Gentoo 4.5.1 p1.0, pie-0.4.5)), module fails. Kernel in both cases compiled with 4.5.
Comment 8 Deleted 2011-09-12 19:19:52 UTC
Could you please add the following patch which seems to solve this problem into main tree http://sourceforge.net/tracker/?func=detail&aid=3157406&group_id=174260&atid=868544 ? and correct kernel version checking(in Makefile) for backlight support in 3.x kernels.
Comment 9 Markos Chandras (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-09-12 19:34:35 UTC
I will do that. But explain your "backlight support" comment you made cause I don't understand it. If you can provide a patch that would be great
Comment 10 Deleted 2011-09-13 17:03:16 UTC
In Makefile the following piece of code doesn't work properly on my pc with gentoo-sources-3.0.4

ifeq ($(OMNIBOOK_WANT_BACKLIGHT),y)
ifdef CONFIG_BACKLIGHT_CLASS_DEVICE
# we support backlight interface only after 2.6.16
ifeq ($(shell if [ $(SUBLEVEL) -gt 16 ] ; then echo -n 'y'; fi),y)
EXTRA_CFLAGS += -DCONFIG_OMNIBOOK_BACKLIGHT
else
$(warning "Backlight support in only supported for kernel version newer than 2.6.16")
$(warning "Disabling backlight sysfs interface")
endif
endif

and omnibook module compiles without blacklight support. I'm not familiar with bash because I'm novice user, so maybe I don't understand something and it's my computer's specific problem, but leaving only "EXTRA_CFLAGS += -DCONFIG_OMNIBOOK_BACKLIGHT" string solves problem for me.
Comment 11 Markos Chandras (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-09-16 15:25:47 UTC
I don't have the hardware to test this but I will sometime next week.
Comment 12 Markos Chandras (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2011-09-26 09:17:56 UTC
The patch does not look safe to me ( what does he use extra dprint messages? ). I'd rather wait for upstream to react first
Comment 13 Markos Chandras (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2012-07-14 09:44:44 UTC
This is now masked for removal. Bug #426542
