Description Jan Eivind Østby 2003-11-11 11:50:55 UTC
Hi.
I decided to try out the KDE 3.2 beta ebuilds. After a without-a-hitch emerge, I started
using it just as normal.
The Karamba program, which provides small system monitor eye candy for the
desktop, has a display error that only occurs in KDE 3.2.
Karamba's displays always appears on top of all other programs, where it "should" be
sitting behind them, on the desktop itself, like it's gnome counterpart, Gdesklets.
The url will demonstrate the problem effectively I think.

Note that this does not happen to any other KDE versions, so I consider this a KDE
3.2 beta bug. This happens for all KDE 3.2 users, and is therefore reproducible every
single time.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Emerge /usr/portage/kde-base/kde/kde-3.2.0_beta1.ebuild

2. Emerge /usr/portage/x11-plugins/karamba/karamba-0.17-r1.ebuild

3. Emerge /usr/portage/x11-plugins/superkaramba/superkaramba-0.33.ebuild

4. Emerge one of the karamba themes from /usr/portage/x11-plugins/

5. Start Karamba or Superkaramba within KDE 3.2, select the theme, and try to put a
window over it.
Actual Results:
Where it (the karama theme) _should_ go BEHIND the window, but instead the window
slides under it, to create a buggy visual effect.

Expected Results:
The karamba theme should have gone in _under_ the window you put over it, just as a
selected window whould over the desktop.

Ok, then you should probably report this to the people who develop Karamba
so they can fix it.

Any progress on this in the past month?

I can just tell this is going to be one of those bugs that stays
in bugzilla forever :P~ Anyways, adding myself to this so I can
remember to ask people if it works after 3.2 final comes out.
Comment 3 Heinrich Wendel (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-01-30 13:26:43 UTC
there is an easy fix, see http://sourceforge.net/forum/forum.php?thread_id=969482&forum_id=67470
Comment 4 Börkur Ingi Jónsson 2004-02-08 11:50:50 UTC
perhaps we should add a patch to correct the proble through the ebuild?
Comment 5 Stefan Briesenick (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-02-09 18:48:35 UTC
PLEASE FIX IT! ;-) The "easy" fix isn't easy, if you just want to emerge superkaramba.

Stefan.
Comment 6 Stefan Briesenick (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-02-18 18:10:06 UTC
since this problem still exists in KDE 3.2 (release), it should be fixed with a small patch in the ebuild for current sources.

the patch is now in portage
Comment 9 Dennis Haney 2004-02-25 17:30:38 UTC
Yup, this fix works just fine.
Comment 10 Nicolai Lissner 2004-03-21 12:06:40 UTC
Unfortunately x86 users still get an unpatched version. This version works much better than an unpatched superkaramba.
I suggest to submit 0.33-r1 as stable.
