Running googleearth fails from gnome menu and from a terminal window. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. qt-core not installed 2. $ googleearth This is a recent gnome on AMD64 install so no QT libraries have been pulled in yet. USE flags include -qt3 and -qt4. Actual Results: googleearth does not launch after clicking googleearth in gnome menu. When run from a terminal window, the following error message is returned: ./googleearth-bin: error while loading shared libraries: libQtCore.so.4: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory Expected Results: googleearth should run. After emerging qt-core googleearth runs successfully. From discussions on the forums <https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-735431-highlight-googleearth.html?sid=81724d6ed31370d23c9e77e435d97ebc> the fonts look good and the blue squares link to photos. This may be the result of the fix from bug report 262780. I was able to recreate the error by unmerging qt-core.
Post emerge --info please. It doesn't make much sense to me. Googleearth is 32bit binary, therefore depends on the 32bit qt4 which is provided by app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-qtlibs-20091231 the package depends on (unless you have USE=qt-bundled set, in which case googleearth will use the qt libraries bundled with it). So I don't see how emerging 64bit qt-core can fix anything. Unless you have in fact a 32bit CHOST with amd64 profile. emerge --info shall tell us...
The info please.
emerge --info run, found qt-bundled enabled in make.conf. Removed qt-bundled and rebuild google-earth and the same problem remains. emerge --info run with qt-core installed and qt-core not installed. Both outputs were identical. emerge --info follows: Portage 2.1.7.16 (default/linux/amd64/10.0, gcc-4.3.4, glibc-2.10.1-r1, 2.6.31-gentoo-r6 x86_64) ================================================================= System uname: Linux-2.6.31-gentoo-r6-x86_64-AMD_Athlon-tm-_64_Processor_3400+-with-gentoo-1.12.13 Timestamp of tree: Tue, 16 Feb 2010 06:30:01 +0000 app-shells/bash: 4.0_p35 dev-java/java-config: 2.1.10 dev-lang/python: 2.6.4 dev-util/cmake: 2.6.4-r3 sys-apps/baselayout: 1.12.13 sys-apps/sandbox: 1.6-r2 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.63-r1 sys-devel/automake: 1.9.6-r2, 1.10.2 sys-devel/binutils: 2.18-r3 sys-devel/gcc: 4.3.4 sys-devel/gcc-config: 1.4.1 sys-devel/libtool: 2.2.6b virtual/os-headers: 2.6.27-r2 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="amd64" ACCEPT_LICENSE="* -@EULA dlj-1.1" CBUILD="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=k8 -O2 -pipe -fno-delete-null-pointer-checks" CHOST="x86_64-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/share/X11/xkb /var/lib/hsqldb" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/ca-certificates.conf /etc/env.d /etc/env.d/java/ /etc/fonts/fonts.conf /etc/gconf /etc/revdep-rebuild /etc/sandbox.d /etc/terminfo /etc/udev/rules.d" CXXFLAGS="-march=k8 -O2 -pipe -fno-delete-null-pointer-checks" DISTDIR="/usr/portage/distfiles" FEATURES="assume-digests distlocks fixpackages news parallel-fetch protect-owned sandbox sfperms strict unmerge-logs unmerge-orphans userfetch" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://distfiles.gentoo.org http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/gentoo" LDFLAGS="-Wl,-O1" LINGUAS="en en_US" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_CONFIGROOT="/" PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS="--recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --stats --timeout=180 --exclude=/distfiles --exclude=/local --exclude=/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" SYNC="rsync://rsync.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage" USE="X a52 aac acl alsa amd64 audiofile automount avahi bzip2 cairo cdparanoia cdr cli consolekit cracklib crypt css cups cxx dbus dga dri dv dvd dvdr dvdread encode exif ffmpeg flac fortran fts3 gdbm gnome gpm gstreamer gtk hal iconv ipv4 jadetex java jpeg jpeg2k lkdnssd mad mdnsresponder-compat midi mmx mng modules mp3 mpeg mudflap multilib musepack musicbrainz ncurses nls nptl nptlonly nsplugin ntplonly objc openexr openmp oss pam pcre perl png ppds pppd python readline reflection scanner session sndfile speex spell spl sqlite sse sse2 ssl svg sysfs theora tiff truetype unicode utils v4l v4l2 vcd vorbis wavpack wma wmf wmp x264 xorg xulrunner xvid xvmc zlib" ALSA_CARDS="intel8x0" ALSA_PCM_PLUGINS="adpcm alaw asym copy dmix dshare dsnoop empty extplug file hooks iec958 ioplug ladspa lfloat linear meter mmap_emul mulaw multi null plug rate route share shm softvol" APACHE2_MODULES="actions alias auth_basic authn_alias authn_anon authn_dbm authn_default authn_file authz_dbm authz_default authz_groupfile authz_host authz_owner authz_user autoindex cache dav dav_fs dav_lock deflate dir disk_cache env expires ext_filter file_cache filter headers include info log_config logio mem_cache mime mime_magic negotiation rewrite setenvif speling status unique_id userdir usertrack vhost_alias" CAMERAS="canon" ELIBC="glibc" INPUT_DEVICES="evdev keyboard mouse synaptics" KERNEL="linux" LCD_DEVICES="bayrad cfontz cfontz633 glk hd44780 lb216 lcdm001 mtxorb ncurses text" LINGUAS="en en_US" RUBY_TARGETS="ruby18" USERLAND="GNU" VIDEO_CARDS="nv nvidia" Unset: CPPFLAGS, CTARGET, EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS, FFLAGS, INSTALL_MASK, LANG, LC_ALL, MAKEOPTS, PORTAGE_COMPRESS, PORTAGE_COMPRESS_FLAGS, PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS, PORTDIR_OVERLAY
Ah, I get it. qt-core installs the env file which puts 32bit qt on ldpath. tricky
Added the dependency until bug 305825 is solved. Leaving open for reference, as it's a workaround.
Fixed properly by dependin on fixed qtlibs. Thanks for reporting and investigating.
