Description Mohamed Hazem 2009-11-11 16:20:23 UTC
I'm using sys-kernel/gentoo-sources-2.6.30-r8 and net-wireless/iwl5000-ucode-8.24.2.12 and I can't get my wireless card to work properly.

Steps:

HeXane ~ # modprobe iwlagn
HeXane ~ # ifconfig wlan0 up
HeXane ~ # iwlist wlan0 scan
wlan0 Failed to read scan data : Resource temporarily unavailable
HeXane ~ # iwlist wlan0 scan
wlan0 Interface doesn't support scanning : Device or resource busy

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:

HeXane ~ # emerge --info
Portage 2.1.6.13 (default/linux/x86/10.0, gcc-4.3.4, glibc-2.9_p20081201-r2, 2.6.30-gentoo-r8-SeXy i686)

Looking at your dmesg i can see:

iwlagn 0000:04:00.0: Radio disabled by SW RF Kill switch
Comment 3 Mohamed Hazem 2009-11-11 16:34:11 UTC
What does this imply ?

Seems invalid to me but we can investigate it a little bit. Please stop all network scripts such as net.wlan0 or network and then try to re-scan again. The kernel recognize the card successfully so it must be something else. Which version of openrc are you using?
Comment 7 Mohamed Hazem 2009-11-12 15:18:48 UTC
I stopped all the network scripts and I'm still getting the same results, and as far as I can tell, I'm not using openrc because it is not installed.
Comment 8 Mohamed Hazem 2009-11-14 22:27:25 UTC
I was able to fix this using iwconfig wlan0 txpower on and then I'm able to scan and connect to wireless networks properly ... but the problem is that I have to set this every time on reboot and that my conf.d net script isn't able to scan during bootup because of this ... any suggestions ?

Check the ADVANCED CONFIGURATION section of your /etc/conf.d/net.example, which explains how to set custom scripts and tie them to your interface operations.

As far as this bug report is concerned, I'm gonna mark it as resolved and INVALID.
