Your pulseaudio setup is otherwise working? If openal is built with USE pulseaudio it will use it instead of alsa (by a patch from Fedora, see files/ directory). Have you contacted apricots and/or openal upstream about this? If not, if not, it would certainly help if you did.
(In reply to comment #3) > If not, if not, it would certainly help if you did. s/if not//, sorry about the typo and noise :)
Okay, but it would be great to get a second confirmation of this by someone else with a similar setup to be sure that it isn't something to do with my machines pulse setup (I haven't changed anything regarding pulse from install, everything is as emerged).
I just tried to leave a message for them upstream but it appears that there server is down. I will try again later.
I can confirm similar problem with a different app - it hangs at sound init too if it uses openal pulseaudio output. However, I found a simpler test - it's openal-info. It hangs too with the default settings, but if I set driver to alsa in .alsoftrc it (and the app) works correctly. And it still can use pulseaudio then, through pulse alsa-plugin (set as default on my system). So it looks like pulse backend of openal needs an update.
Please provide a working .alsoftrc file
Only thing I needed was 'drivers = alsa' line.
Are you guys using the system-wide configuration (init script) with pulseaudio?
What do you mean? If you are asking if I add it to default runlevel, then no. It's started with kde 4 integrated.
I've stopped using system-wide back in 0.9.15, since I understood how that autostart feature works.
The changes from 1.8 include: * Fixed compatibility with newer PulseAudio libs. Please try, *openal-1.9.563 (27 Sep 2009) 27 Sep 2009; Samuli Suominen <ssuominen@gentoo.org> +openal-1.9.563.ebuild: Version bump.
I can confirm that this version fixes the problem.
(In reply to comment #14) > I can confirm that this version fixes the problem. > To a point it does, but it now prints warnings, specifically: Inconsistency detected by ld.so: dl-close.c: 731: _dl_close: Assertion `map->l_init_called' failed!
