Description Francisco J. Vazquez 2009-08-08 09:27:38 UTC
When emerging matplotlib (any version) I get this:

building 'matplotlib.ft2font' extension
creating build/temp.linux-x86_64-2.6
creating build/temp.linux-x86_64-2.6/src
creating build/temp.linux-x86_64-2.6/CXX
x86_64-pc-linux-gnu-gcc -pthread -DNDEBUG -march=core2 -O2 -pipe -fPIC -DPY_ARRAYAUNIQUE_SYMBOL=MPL_ARRAY_API -I/usr/lib64/python2.6/site-packages/numpy/core/include -I/usr/include/freetype2 -I/usr/include -I. -I/usr/include/python2.6 -c src/ft2font.cpp -o build/temp.linux-x86_64-2.6/src/ft2font.o
In file included from src/ft2font.h:4,
                 from src/ft2font.cpp:1:
/usr/include/python2.6/CXX/Extensions.hxx:50:34: error: CXX/Python2/Config.hxx: No such file or directory
/usr/include/python2.6/CXX/Extensions.hxx:51:36: error: CXX/Python2/CxxDebug.hxx: No such file or directory

If we take a look at /usr/include/python2.6/CXX/Extensions.hxx:

#include "CXX/WrapPython.h"
#include "CXX/Version.hxx"
#include "CXX/Python2/Config.hxx"
#include "CXX/Python2/CxxDebug.hxx"
#include "CXX/Python2/Objects.hxx"

CXX/Python2? That directory doesn't even exist. Config.hxx, CxxDebug.hxx and Objects.hxx are in CXX. I did a

sed -i Extensions.hxx -e 's~CXX/Python2/~CXX/~'

and matplotlib compiled again without problems. It seems this problem is caused by pycxx-6.1.0-setup.py.patch.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:

dev-python/pycxx-6.1.0.ebuild

Hi, compiling matplotlib I run into the same problem with pycxx-6.1.0. Your patch fixed the issue, thanks.
For the experts the change in the ebuild is obvious. For others the adjusted ebuild might be handy... so here it is.
Comment 4 srunni 2009-08-10 02:18:13 UTC
I can confirm that this worked for me as well, on Gentoo x86.

Required headers wouldn't be installed at all without this patch.

Wrong paths were also in /usr/include/python3.1/CXX/Objects.hxx, /usr/include/python3.1/CXX/Exception.hxx and /usr/include/python3.1/CXX/Extensions.hxx.

Fixed.

There doesn't seem to be anything new in the portage tree, the problem remains.

Try:
emerge --sync
emerge -1 pycxx
