Updating my machine to xf86-video-intel-2.7.99.902 caused the following issues: 1) vertical color bars approximately 3-5 pixels in width 2) frozen mouse pointer 3) machine can be rebooted via ssh or with Skinny Elephants. This was tested three different times to make sure it was a driver issue, or as close to one as I can get. xf86-video-intel-2.7.1 works properly. Have not tried xf86-video-intel-2.7.99.901. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. emergexf86-video-intel-2.7.99.902 2. Color bars 3. Frozen pointer 4. Machine can be rebooted with <alt><SysRq><b> or via ssh. Actual Results: See above. Expected Results: Expected driver to work properly, not lock machine. pappy-lap ~ # emerge --info Portage 2.2_rc33 (default/linux/x86/2008.0, gcc-4.3.2, glibc-2.10.1-r0, 2.6.29-zen2 i686) ================================================================= System uname: Linux-2.6.29-zen2-i686-Intel-R-_Celeron-R-_M_CPU_440_@_1.86GHz-with-gentoo-1.12.12 Timestamp of tree: Fri, 17 Jul 2009 07:00:01 +0000 distcc 3.1 i686-pc-linux-gnu [enabled] app-shells/bash: 4.0_p24 dev-lang/python: 2.6.2-r1 dev-python/pycrypto: 2.0.1-r8 dev-util/cmake: 2.6.4 sys-apps/baselayout: 1.12.12 sys-apps/sandbox: 2.0 sys-devel/autoconf: 2.13, 2.63-r1 sys-devel/automake: 1.6.3, 1.7.9-r1, 1.8.5-r3, 1.9.6-r2, 1.10.2, 1.11 sys-devel/binutils: 2.19.1-r1 sys-devel/gcc-config: 1.4.1 sys-devel/libtool: 2.2.6a virtual/os-headers: 2.6.30 ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="x86 ~x86" CBUILD="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CFLAGS="-march=prescott -O2 -pipe" CHOST="i686-pc-linux-gnu" CONFIG_PROTECT="/etc /usr/kde/3.5/env /usr/kde/3.5/share/config /usr/kde/3.5/shutdown /usr/share/config" CONFIG_PROTECT_MASK="/etc/ca-certificates.conf /etc/env.d /etc/fonts/fonts.conf /etc/gconf /etc/php/apache2-php5/ext-active/ /etc/php/cgi-php5/ext-active/ /etc/php/cli-php5/ext-active/ /etc/revdep-rebuild /etc/sandbox.d /etc/terminfo /etc/udev/rules.d" CXXFLAGS="-march=prescott -O2 -pipe" DISTDIR="/mnt/auto/storage/distfiles" FEATURES="distcc distlocks fixpackages parallel-fetch preserve-libs protect-owned sandbox sfperms strict unmerge-orphans userfetch" GENTOO_MIRRORS="http://distfiles.gentoo.org http://distro.ibiblio.org/pub/linux/distributions/gentoo" LANG="en_US.UTF-8" LC_ALL="en_US.UTF-8" LDFLAGS="-Wl,-O1" LINGUAS="en" MAKEOPTS="-j4" PKGDIR="/usr/portage/packages" PORTAGE_CONFIGROOT="/" PORTAGE_RSYNC_OPTS="--recursive --links --safe-links --perms --times --compress --force --whole-file --delete --stats --timeout=180 --exclude=/distfiles --exclude=/local --exclude=/packages" PORTAGE_TMPDIR="/var/tmp" PORTDIR="/usr/portage" PORTDIR_OVERLAY="/usr/local/portage" SYNC="rsync://192.168.0.130/gentoo-portage" USE="X a52 aac acl acpi alsa ao audiofile avi bash-completion berkdb bitmap-fonts bzip2 cairo cdr cli cracklib crypt css cups dbus dlloader dri dts dv dvd dvdr dvdread eds encode fam fbcon ffmpeg fftw flac foomaticdb fortran gdbm gif gimp glib gpm gsl gtk hal iconv isdnlog jack jpeg kde ladspa lame ldap libsamplerate mad midi mikmod mmx mp3 mpeg mudflap nas ncurses nls nptl nptlonly objc ogg opengl openmp oss pam pcre pdf perl php png ppds pppd python qt3 quicktime readline reflection samba sdl session slang slp sndfile spell spl sse sse2 ssl svg swat sysfs tcpd theora tiff truetype udev unicode usb v4l v4l2 vidix vorbis wifi win32codecs wxwindows x264 x86 xine xml xorg xscreensaver xv xvid zlib" ALSA_CARDS="ali5451 als4000 atiixp atiixp-modem bt87x ca0106 cmipci emu10k1 emu10k1x ens1370 ens1371 es1938 es1968 fm801 hda-intel intel8x0 intel8x0m maestro3 trident usb-audio via82xx via82xx-modem ymfpci" ALSA_PCM_PLUGINS="adpcm alaw asym copy dmix dshare dsnoop empty extplug file hooks iec958 ioplug ladspa lfloat linear meter mmap_emul mulaw multi null plug rate route share shm softvol" APACHE2_MODULES="actions alias auth_basic authn_alias authn_anon authn_dbm authn_default authn_file authz_dbm authz_default authz_groupfile authz_host authz_owner authz_user autoindex cache dav dav_fs dav_lock deflate dir disk_cache env expires ext_filter file_cache filter headers include info log_config logio mem_cache mime mime_magic negotiation rewrite setenvif speling status unique_id userdir usertrack vhost_alias" ELIBC="glibc" INPUT_DEVICES="evdev synaptics" KERNEL="linux" LCD_DEVICES="bayrad cfontz cfontz633 glk hd44780 lb216 lcdm001 mtxorb ncurses text" LINGUAS="en" USERLAND="GNU" VIDEO_CARDS="intel v4l" Unset: CPPFLAGS, CTARGET, EMERGE_DEFAULT_OPTS, FFLAGS, INSTALL_MASK, PORTAGE_COMPRESS, PORTAGE_COMPRESS_FLAGS, PORTAGE_RSYNC_EXTRA_OPTS

Same issue here. Yet, after seeing the colorbars, X usually restart. Hardware: Intel i915 Software: xorg-server 1.6.1 mesa 7.4.4 libdrm 2.4.11 xf86-video-intel-2.7.99.902
Same problem here with intel i915. xorg-server 1.6.2-r1 mesa 7.4.4 libdrm 2.4.12 gentoo-sources 2.6.30-r3 The problem goes away when downgrading to version 2.7.1. Also I would like to tell that the intel drivers have never worked for me with the 2.6.30 kernels. Every day my computer chrashes at least once. I tried downgrading the video drivers and changing the acceleration from uxa to xxa or exa, neither of which helped. Reverting back to the latest 2.6.29 kernel makes everything fine again. I don't know whether to open a bug report for this: It seems to happen completely at random, and I don't really know how I can supply anything helpful about it. But if you want me to just let me know.

The issue of which you speak is the same whether it's .30 vanilla, gentoo, or zen sources.
Please try with .901 and report back Thanks
Actually, please try again with .902-r1 that I've just committed. It should hit your local sync mirror within an hour or two. Thanks

I tried it, and X started and exited properly, but there was NO opengl. My GL screensavers didn't like it one bit. Close.

Reopening
And closing with the proper resolution. @Bob, your opengl issues are probably very similar to those described in bug #278119. Let's track them there for now. Thanks
