I'd like to get more involved in x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers since I happen to have an old Geforce 2 MX/400 which uses the 96* branch of driver versions. I would like to use this bug report to document a transparent patching and stabilisation policy for this driver. Right now all the maintenance policy is split between many bugs with many duplicates, which causes all the more duplicates to be filed because users do not know when to not file new bugs. I also propose to split up maintainer responsibility (and perhaps add myself as maintainer) to be able to more quickly act on behalf of users of specific major versions (which could easily be documented in metadata.xml using the current DTD's format of [maintainer /][email /][name /][description]primary maintainer for the NNN* versions[/description]). Specifically, bug #265260 asks for 96* stabilisation for a version which has been out there quite long (with bug #275495 as a duplicate or vice versa), and there is a well working patch for >=kernel-2.6.30 out there aching to get added (bug #273539).
We already talked about this and its happened.
