Description Markus Wolff 2009-04-07 08:37:42 UTC
The Problem is that no GEM is support on kernel lower then 2.6.28.
dmesg: [drm:i915_get_parm] *Unkown parameter 5
If you switching the terminal to Console like e.g. F1-F6 and switch to
DISPLAY:0 F7 again. You will see that the xserver will crashed, with vertical lines, you can only reboot, the pc is not reacted
If you upgrade a kernel to 2.6.28 then the problem is solved.
I miss a hint after you install xorg-server/intel(graphics) that is only running with newer kernel 2.6.28.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. install current stable xorg-server on arch with i915 driver
2. install current stable gentoo-sources on arch with i915 driver
3. the problem is known on other distrubitions

Actual Results:
all is crashed you can only reboot

Looks like this should block bug #252467.

@Markus: Please post your `emerge --info', attach the Xorg log and (relevant) dmesg output for completeness. It looks like x11 should perhaps look at x11-drivers/xf86-video-intel but I am not sure.

@Markus: Also, I don't see at all how this could be a Bugzilla problem...

Fixed in gentoo-sources-2.6.28-r5 which is now stable.
