It might be something with out-of-memory while emerging, because the first time I tried this, when it got this error, it also killed all larger applications I had opened (Firefox, some xterms even), but now I tried this compile without any unneeded apps open, and it also failed. And I have 2 GB of RAM, so it should be enough, no? I have no swap, because I have no HDDs in this machine, only USB flash, so its no point in having swap.

yeah pretty much. install more memory, or try removing -pipe from your compiler flags.
