do you have the same error also with tcl-8.5?

There is no unmasked version of tcl 8.5 available

emerge =dev-lang/tcl-8.5.5 -av

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Comment 5 Ryan Hill (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-10-30 03:46:55 UTC
no, fails the same way. setting --without-tk doesn't work either.
Comment 6 Matthias Krebs 2008-11-01 12:25:42 UTC
same here (~amd64), needs tk now to build

[ebuild   R   ] dev-lang/tcl-8.4.19  USE="threads -debug"
[ebuild   R   ] dev-lang/tk-8.4.19  USE="threads -debug"
Comment 7 Federico Ferri (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-11-02 09:59:39 UTC
reading the configure script it seems TK is now a hard dependency, so you'll need dev-lang/tk in order to build expect

Okay. But then please keep the old versions without hard TK dep in the repo. Because I assume there are some people outside wanting a small as possible server system :)

in CVS.
resync in a hour or two

I'll keep that in mind, thanks.

I'll try to submit this upstream, so that a newer version of tk eventually won't suffer of this issue.
Comment 11 Ryan Hill (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-11-02 10:33:21 UTC
sorry, but we really shouldn't have expect pulling in xorg.
