Hi, I have just finished setting up a gentoo-portage mirror on some of my servers in france. They can be accessed both over IPv6 and IPv4. The IPv6 is native connectivity (so no tunnels). At the moment the server is limited to 50 connections over rsync (this is global and applys to all the rsync content). Speed is 100Mbit/sec per server. There are two server's under gentoo.got-root.me.uk although one doesn't seem to have popped up in dns yet. If you need any other details please feel free to ask. Mirror admin address is mirrors(at)got-root.me.uk. Thanks, Alex Reproducible: Always
Alex, Thanks for wanting to help Gentoo with rsync mirrors. I've added gentoo.got-root.me.uk to our mirror test system and will keep you posted about the progress. I would like to know one thing though...how are the two machines setup? Do they both sync individually? or have a common sync mechanism for portage?
Server 1 syncs from the master mirror, server 2 syncs from server 1 5 minute later than server 1 syncs from master. Hope that make's sense, it's been a long day without enough coffee *laughs* Alex
(In reply to comment #2) > Server 1 syncs from the master mirror, server 2 syncs from server 1 5 minute > later than server 1 syncs from master. > > Hope that make's sense, it's been a long day without enough coffee *laughs* Heh, yeah, it makes sense. Might explain why today's check returned a 23, partial transfer..the rest of the checks till date were okay *ERROR* : return value of rsync during gentoo-portage check was 23 Is there a way we can keep both the mirrors in sync together?
Shouldn't complain now - I changed a few bit's on the script I had written.
Still lagging: *ERROR* : gentoo-portage mirror is lagging by over 40 mins, lag is : 55.08 mins Timestamp on Mirror : Tue, 21 Oct 2008 02:15:03 +0000 Current time in UTC : Tue, 21 Oct 2008 03:10:08 +0000 Bug URL : https://bugs.gentoo.org/238912 , due:2008/10/15 For the fact that you have two machines and want to keep them in identical sync, how about looking at the atomic rsync stuff, syncing to a non-public temp space, and then pulling that down to both machines at the same time.
Alex, There's still a lag, but I'm ignoring that for now and adding you in. Please consider Robin's comment (comment #5). I'll keep this bug assigned to see if the mirrors are okay once you have access to rsync1.us. If the situation does not change, we'll see how we can solve it. Thanks for helping out Gentoo. I have added the IP you specified in the bug to our access database, please start syncing to rsync1.us.gentoo.org per our Rsync document at http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/rsync.xml. We would like you to subscribe to the gentoo-mirrors Mailing List by sending an email to gentoo-mirrors+subscribe@lists.gentoo.org, as we send our notifications of updates, releases, and changes in policy to the mirrors. Once again, thanks for the hardware and bandwidth! Please also monitor http://mirrorstats.gentoo.org/rsync as this application is used to keep track of the up-to-date nature of our mirrors For Infrastructure, Shyam Mani You are mirror rsync5.fr.gentoo.org in the rsync.fr.gentoo.org rotation.
FYI gentoo.got-root.me.uk wants to be a gentoo-portage mirror and is being checked as per Bug #238912 *ERROR* : gentoo-portage mirror is lagging by over 40 mins, lag is : 54.08 mins Timestamp on Mirror : Mon, 03 Nov 2008 02:16:01 +0000 Current time in UTC : Mon, 03 Nov 2008 03:10:06 +0000 Bug URL : https://bugs.gentoo.org/238912 , due:2008/10/15
Alex, Did you switch to syncing from rsync1.us?
Ping, Extending checks by a week, please confirm that you're syncing from rsync1.us
Alright, way too much lag and no response. I'm removing your mirror from our rotation. Thanks for wanting to help Gentoo with a mirror.
