Hi! We have set up a new gentoo mirror both distfiles and portage available as ftp://ftp.klid.dk/gentoo http://ftp.klid.dk/ftp/gentoo ftp://ftp.klid.dk/gentoo-portage http://ftp.klid.dk/ftp/gentoo-portage Our bandwidth is 1000 Mbit/s I have not set up rsync, as I am a bit hesitant about what you want and the naming (rsync1.dk.gentoo.org?) Reproducible: Always
Keld, Thanks for wanting to help out Gentoo with a mirror. The minimum specs for our mirrors are listed in the docs mentioned below : 1) Source/distfile mirrors : http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/source_mirrors.xml 2) Rsync/gentoo-portage mirrors : http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/rsync.xml Please go through those, see if you're okay with the requirements and if your mirror matches the criteria, I'll add you to our mirror test system and we'll take it from there.
I used the two guides to set up the mirrors, so I am OK with these guides.
(In reply to comment #2) > I used the two guides to set up the mirrors, so I am OK with these guides. Okay. A couple of things: 1) gentoo-portage has to be an rsync mirror, we can't run checks on it via ftp or http. Please enable rsync, naming convention will be decided when we decide to accept the mirror. In your case, it will most likely be rsync1.dk.gentoo.org since we don't have another mirror in Denmark 2) What is the hardware and how many concurrent users do you plan to support?
OK, I opened up for rsync, should I call it gentoo or gentoo-portage or something else? I have no limits on number of users on the rsync. On ftp the users are limited to 100 Danish, and 300 international users. The hardware is a AMD Sempron 1800 MHz CPU, 1.5 GB RAM, 6 TB disk, 1 gigabit connection.

Your current configuration is fine. > The hardware is a AMD Sempron 1800 MHz CPU, 1.5 GB RAM, 6 TB disk, 1 gigabit > connection. Sounds good. What would you like your mirror to be listed as? I'm adding the mirror(s) to our test system and will keep you posted on it's progress.
I would like the name to be ftp.klid.dk Best regards keld
Keld, The server seems to be in sync. ftp.klid.dk/ftp/gentoo/ is in sync, current delta : 2.02 hours Timestamp on Mirror : Thu, 07 Aug 2008 01:10:01 +0000 Current time in UTC : Thu, 07 Aug 2008 03:11:06 +0000 One thing though, there is a .test directory under releases, which you seem to be missing. We would need that to be mirrored as well, to make sure things are in sync. Please make sure you're syncing that directory as well.
OK, I have set rsync up to get .test too. However I find it strange to have a .test directory, why not call it test if you really want it to be mirrored? I tend to have a --exclude '.*' for most of my mirrors. And there was a file THIS-FILE-SHOULD-NOT-BE-PUBLIC.txt which could not be read. I do like to not have error messages from rsync for normal operation. I then put this file on the exclude list. Is that what was intended?

There is no need for that. > And there was a file THIS-FILE-SHOULD-NOT-BE-PUBLIC.txt which could not be > read. Read the contents of the file, and please leave the files under the .test directory as they are.

Hmm, I could not get THIS-FILE-SHOULD-NOT-BE-PUBLIC.txt so most likely I do not have sufficient privileges. Should I have some privileges on the master site?
The distfiles mirror is all good. ftp.klid.dk/gentoo/ is in sync, current delta : 1.18 hours Timestamp on Mirror : Sun, 17 Aug 2008 02:00:01 +0000 Current time in UTC : Sun, 17 Aug 2008 03:10:37 +0000 Bug URL : https://bugs.gentoo.org/232436 The rsync mirror is lagging a bit, can you change it to sync from rsync1.de.gentoo.org? *ERROR* : gentoo-portage mirror is lagging by over 40 mins, lag is : 56.05 mins Timestamp on Mirror : Sun, 17 Aug 2008 02:15:01 +0000 Current time in UTC : Sun, 17 Aug 2008 03:11:04 +0000
Thanks for helping out Gentoo. I have added your mirror to our list at http://www.gentoo.org/main/en/mirrors.xml. Please start syncing from masterdistfiles.gentoo.org as the email I have sent to you instructs. We would like you to subscribe to the gentoo-mirrors Mailing List by sending an email to gentoo-mirrors-subscribe@lists.gentoo.org, as we send out notifications of updates, releases, and changes in policy to the mirrors. Please also monitor http://mirrorstats.gentoo.org as this application is used to keep track of the up-to-date nature of our mirrors. Once again, thanks for the hardware and bandwidth! For Infrastructure, Shyam Mani I'm leaving the bug open to process your rsync mirror.

Thanks for helping out Gentoo. I have added the IP you specified in the bug 192.38.78.162 to our access database, please start syncing to rsync1.us.gentoo.org per our Rsync document at http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/rsync.xml. Fine. I have enrolled in teh mirrors email list. I mirror from the european mirror rsync://rsync.de.gentoo.org/gentoo-portage/ as this wes stipulated in the setup document. Do you want me to shift to the US mirror?
(In reply to comment #15) > as this wes stipulated in the setup document. Do you want me to shift to the US > mirror? Yes. As the same document mentions, once you're an official mirror, you should sync from rsync1.us.gentoo.org. This is the master gentoo-portage mirror and only mirrors have access to it.
OK, I have changed to the rsync1.us.gentoo,org site for gentoo-portage
