Many people suggest downgrading to earlier versions of ati-drivers, because bugs like - qt font corruption - general qt corruption - low resolutions only seem to occur in newer versions. But this is mostly due to the file /etc/ati/amdpcsdb. It is some kind of extra-configuration whose options are changed with every driver release. I myself got the most untrackable and strangest bugs, nobody could help me and I wanted to send the ati-drivers developers to hell! But the latest drivers actually aren't that bad, e.g. PowerPlay works better and better with every release. The only thing is, that the file /etc/ati/amdpcsdb is badly documented, not updated as soon as it exists and only parts of it can be edited with amdcccle. But for configuring monitors it's enough. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Remove /etc/ati/amdpcsdb. 2. Install old version of ati-drivers, like 8.40.4. 3. run X 4. Install latest ati-drivers 5. run a QT application or a monitor with a resolution greater than 1024x768 and watch the bugs.
As hinted in red letters, "Gentoo Bugzilla" is not the correct product to file bugs regarding ebuilds. Please use "New -> Gentoo Linux -> Component: Ebuilds" in future.

Also be careful *when* you delete amdpcsdb. It at least sometimes gets written at (X windows) shutdown. Best to do it when X windows is not running.
We are removing old ati-drivers. And new does not exhibit this issue. Move to xf86-video-ati.
