Description Trevor Bowen 2008-05-01 21:31:45 UTC
Rebuilding the world (emerge -e system && emerge -e world) hangs indefinitely during emerge of kde-base/libkdepim-3.5.8. Specifically, it freezes and never returns after printing this line:

 * Applying libkdepim-3.5-headers_for_knetworkmanager.diff ...

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge -e system
2. emerge -e world

- or simply:

1. emerge libkdepim

Actual Results:

FWIW, I am experiencing a similar bug (emerge freezes during early configuration stage, but on a different line) for gnome-applets:

http://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=219956

I was able to work around the gnome-applets bug by upgrading to the unstable version of python, but I have not been able to resolve this problem. Upgrading to the unstable version of KDE did not resolve this issue. I fail. :-( Maybe they are related?

Well, I kept doing an "emerge --skipfirst", until my "emerge -e world" was completed. I don't know what was finally rebuilt, but something was eventually rebuilt that made everything else happy.

I am able to emerge libkdepim and gnome-applets with no problems now.

I would love to know what tool was broken and causing this problem, but I guess there is no way to know now.

That'd be 'emerge --skipfirst'
