Description Ivan Trombley 2008-01-30 17:08:31 UTC
Device /dev/input/wacom is missing. The wacom driver works fine in 2.6.23-r3.

Reproducible: Always

Ivan,

From your Xorg logs, it appears the /dev/input/wacom device doesn't exist. Could you please check whether the wacom device is being created under a different name (such as in /dev/input/by-id/)? Thanks... 5:)
Comment 7 Robert Buchholz (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-01-31 19:31:40 UTC
Do your 2.6.23-r3 and 2.6.23-r6 have identical configs?
Comment 8 Ivan Trombley 2008-02-03 02:14:46 UTC
Sorry for the delay getting back. After some investigation I discovered the wacom files in 2.6.23-r6 are missing the definitions for the BambooFun device that's in 2.6.23-r3.

As this is the device I'm using (the small 4x6 one) then that's most likely the cause.
Comment 9 Robert Buchholz (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-02-08 22:04:18 UTC
Which files do you mean? I just went through the (small) diff from -r3 to -r6 and could not find any wacom/BambooFun related changes at all.
Comment 10 Ivan Trombley 2008-02-09 07:10:18 UTC
Doh, I'm really sorry. This is something that I added and completely forgot about it. Could I get this added to the Gentoo patch set? I'll add an attachment.

Comment 12 Robert Buchholz (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-02-12 00:48:55 UTC
Removing regression.

It seems the kernel version (in 2.6.24 too) is older than the latest development release. I'm adding kernel@ to see what they say about including your patch.

Besides that, you can try using the linuxwacom development version from ikelos' git overlay at git.overlays.gentoo.org.
Comment 13 Daniel Drake (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-02-12 11:21:34 UTC
If you'd like us to assist that patch going upstream and include it in gentoo-sources then please reassign the bug to kernel@gentoo.org
Comment 14 Mike Auty (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-02-12 22:48:58 UTC
I just included my testing version in the main tree (without the bamboofun patch), but I've left it masked until some people have tested it with older kernels and older xorgs. It's been working fine for me with 2.6.24 for a few weeks though, so do give it a go and please report any issues on bug 147537... 5:)
Comment 15 Robert Buchholz (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2008-05-16 22:41:48 UTC
it's unmasked, so just compile with USE=module, and it should work. Please reopen if you disagree.

Thanks.
