The bug is not reproducible, so it is likely a hardware or OS problem.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1.env-update
2.emerge -DuNtav world

Actual Results:
the emerge fails

I could add that I've had a lot of failed emerges of other packages, but they sometimes works after doing env-update

Expected Results:
gcc should be emerged

As the message suggests - can you reproduce it repeatedly at *exactly* the same place? If you can, then attach the preprocessed source here, otherwise move to Bug 20600.
Comment 2 Stian Skjelstad 2008-01-22 12:46:39 UTC
Or try to remove either -march=prescott or -funroll-loops (or both) from CFLAGS...
Comment 3 Ann Ohnym 2008-01-22 14:43:15 UTC
It worked! The worst kind of failure when reproducing an error. ;-)
I suspect HW or something is unstable. I will run memtest86+ very soon.
